The Downtown Durham area has a uniquely charming and welcoming feel that is reflected in its many local shops and restaurants. Durham is cool. Durham is artsy. Durham is sporty. All of these are accurate! The Durham experience can include a ballgame at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park or a musical at the Durham Performing Arts Center. However, no Durham experience is complete without a visit to one of its fabulous restaurants.

Check out this list of Downtown Durham’s most unique places to dine for the full Bull City experience:

Bull City Burger and Brewery

Bull City Burger and Brewery is a farm-to-fork restaurant that features burgers made with pasture-raised beef. Its beers are brewed right there in the restaurant and recently took home several medals in the NC State Brewers’ Cup Competition.

Enjoy fine dining amongst fine art at Counting House! This restaurant is located in the recently opened 21c Museum Hotel. It serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner and features a well-stocked bar with a fantastic bourbon and whiskey selection.

Beyu Caffe

Beyu Caffe is perhaps one of the most versatile spots in Downtown Durham. It’s a coffee shop, restaurant, AND a jazz club! In the morning, enjoy a hot cup of coffee with a Bull City Biscuit. In the evening, enjoy some Jazzy Shrimp & Grits while you wait for the show to start!

The Viceroy

Downtown Durham has its very own British Pub! The Viceroy serves up delicious Indian and British cuisine such as Daal Makhani and Curried Shepherd’s Pie. Enjoy a pint of beer or a craft cocktail to wash it all down. So delicious!

Toast describes itself as a paninoteca, which is an authentic Italian sandwich shop. It serves grilled panini sandwiches, crostini, and hearty soups. It’s one of the best lunch spots you’ll find in all of Downtown Durham!

Dashi

Dashi is a Japanese ramen shop and izakaya (Japanese pub) located in downtown Durham. There’s nothing quite like a bowl of authentic ramen on a cold winter evening! You can also warm yourself up with Japanese whiskeys as well.

Now, although this next restaurant on our list isn’t unique to just Durham, Tobacco Road Sports Cafe undoubtedly offers one of the ultimate Downtown Durham experiences. Its outdoor patio is located right next to the Durham Bulls baseball stadium. You can enjoy ballgame while drinking a craft beer and eating delicious pub fare!
