Hedingham is an award-winning private community spread out on 600 acres, located in East Raleigh. It is situated on a beautiful 18-hole golf course and is comprised of about 2,500 total homes, swimming pools, playgrounds and an athletic club for private use by residents.
In 2009, and 2012, Hedingham was named Community of Distinction in the category of Very Large Mixed Use Communities by the North Carolina Chapter of the Community Associations Institute. The location, amenities and wide variety of homes makes it one of the most desirable affordable neighborhoods in all of Raleigh.
Hedingham – Prime Location in Raleigh
The Hedingham community is tucked away in the suburbs of the city proper, but it’s an incredibly convenient location for those that want to be close to the action in the Downtown Raleigh area. Hedingham is a mere 3-mile drive to Downtown Raleigh and all that it has to offer. It’s also only a half mile from the I-440 beltline and about three miles to I-540, making it convenient for commuting to Durham, Cary or RTP.
Hedingham Offers Residents a Complete Lifestyle
In addition to an easy commute to other areas of the Triangle, Hedingham residents enjoy friendly neighbors, and many amenities such as a full-service athletic center featuring a gym, basketball, volleyball, a wide variety of aerobic classes, yoga, free weights and top of the line exercise equipment. Two lighted tennis courts, a playground, multiple fishing lakes, and paved greenway for walking and jogging along the picturesque Neuse River.
If you drive through the community on any given day, you will see residents fishing in the private community lake, enjoying the golf course, going for a run, playing with their children in the greenspaces or simply enjoying nature.
Hedingham Recreational Opportunities
Hedingham is an active community, and there’s no shortage of recreational activities! The community includes two well-maintained swimming pools and is home to the Hedingham Sharks, a youth swim team. Children also love playing in the two neighborhood playgrounds. For the adults, there’s an athletic club with ellipticals, stationary bikes, and weights. There are also fun group classes, including yoga and aerobics. If you enjoy playing team sports, there’s a basketball court and a tennis court available to Hedingham residents.
Hedingham Golf Club
Hedingham community features a beautiful 18-hole golf course owned and managed by Fred Smith properties. A major benefit of living in Hedingham is that you can use the course free of charge after 3 pm. The course opened in 1992 and has been well maintained for the past 25 years.
The Hedingham 18-hole golf course features new Champion Bermuda greens, putting green, driving range, pro shop, and even a snack bar. The course is nestled perfectly into the natural landscape found along the Hedingham Community and Neuse River area, where the fairways wind leisurely and majestically from green to green.
The golf course features obstacles to increase your skill such as lakes, ponds, sculpted sand traps, emerald-grassed greens, and thickly-wooded boundaries with subtly-rolling fairways. The diverse setting and landscape makes the well-groomed Hedingham Golf Course one of the most fun and challenging courses designed by internationally respected golf architect David Postlethwait.
The Hedingham golf course features around 6,500 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 71. The course rating is 71.6 and it has a slope rating of 124.

Hedingham Homes (Available For Sale/Rent)
The most attractive feature of the Hedingham community is its variety of homes and townhomes. This master planned neighborhood is still relatively affordable compared to others in Raleigh. There are one bedroom townhomes, two and three bedroom townhomes and even larger homes with three or four bedrooms with a private backyard on a decent sized lot.
The wide selection means there are a variety of price points, so Hedingham is a viable option for you regardless of your financial situation. Many people start out in the neighborhood as renters and buy when the time is right.
Hedingham Community Association and Committees
Hedingham is a deed-restricted neighborhood, meaning you are expected to keep your home presentable and in compliance with community guidelines. There are monthly dues, that are relatively cheap, especially considering all of the amenities available. The dues are slightly higher if you live in townhomes, as it includes yard upkeep.
The association is managed by CAS and includes a five-member board of directors. All members must be Hedingham residents. There are also several committees that residents can be involved with, including the Social Committee, which plans community events, the Neighborhood Watch and the Hi-Milers, a social club for 50+ residents.
Hedingham’s Social Committee plans several community events throughout the year. These are family-friendly events that include a Fall Festival, visits from Santa in December and an Easter Egg hunt in the Spring. During the summer, the committee also plans movie nights at the pools. There’s always something fun going on in Hedingham!
Hedingham is a Great Place to Live
While the location, amenities, and affordability are major draws, what makes Hedingham one of the best well-established communities in Raleigh is the awesome people that live here. Hedingham homeowners and renters genuinely care about the neighborhood and each other. In 2016, a devastating fire displaced several Hedingham residents and the neighbors pulled together to donate money, gift cards, and household items to help.
Should you choose to move into the Hedingham community, you can be confident that you are among some of the most neighborly individuals in all of Raleigh.
