Downtown Raleigh, like most cities and towns, is fueled by coffee. Raleigh residents love starting their day with a cup of freshly brewed coffee. We also love our mid-afternoon pick-me-up! Of course, we have a few Starbucks locations sprinkled throughout the city, but we prefer our local, independent coffee shops.

Here are a few of the most popular coffee shops in Downtown Raleigh:

Sir Walter Coffee

Sir Walter Coffee opened earlier this year and quickly became a favorite spot in Downtown Raleigh. It offers delicious coffee beverages along with tea cocktails and beer. Its motto, Coffee, Craft, and Comfort, is easily reflected in the menu and atmosphere.

42 & Lawrence

If you are looking for a unique coffee experience, 42 & Lawrence is the place to go! Its coffee is brewed using Larry’s Beans, a local roaster. This coffee shop offers your standard coffee drinks, but also includes unique drinks such as nitro cold brew, raft lattes, and cold-pressed juices.

The Morning Times

Located right next to the extraordinarily popular beer bar, The Raleigh Times, is an equally popular coffee shop called  The Morning Times! The coffee is brewed using Counter Culture beans, another local roaster. This coffee shop also serves breakfast and lunch if you need a bite to eat to go with your freshly brewed cup of coffee.

Sosta Cafe

Sosta Cafe is another local favorite. The coffee is brewed using TORCH coffee beans, another local roaster. This coffee shop offers coffee and tea beverages alongside omelets, breakfast sandwiches and pastries. Sosta Cafe is also a popular lunch spot, serving paninis, sandwiches, soups, and salads made from locally sourced ingredients.

Bittersweet is mostly known for its tasty desserts, but they also serve up delicious coffee beverages. Need your coffee fast? It has a quick service window so you can get your coffee and scone on the go! Bittersweet also offers seasonal coffee beverages. Its Pumpkin Spice Latte is one of the best I’ve ever had!

Videri is mostly known for its handcrafted chocolate bars, but it’s also a coffee shop! It serves Stumptown coffee – hot or cold brewed. You can also order delicious sipping chocolate while you browse their selection of chocolates or take a self-guided tour of the factory.

Other Downtown Raleigh spots that serve delicious coffee include Living Kitchen and Raleigh Raw. Try the Crack Coffee at Raleigh Raw!  You will definitely get hooked. All of the coffee shops listed here provide relaxing, quiet spaces for you to catch up with a friend or work on your novel.
