Restaurants in Downtown Raleigh are incredibly fortunate to have access to fresh ingredients of all kinds, thanks to plentiful local farms in the region. Many are committed to using locally sourced meats, fruits, and vegetables. Whether you are watching your weight, looking to eat responsibly and ethically, or are simply trying to maintain a healthier lifestyle, there are plenty of delicious options for you all over the city.

Here are a few of our favorite healthy spots to grab a bite to eat in Downtown Raleigh:

Fiction Kitchen

Vegetarians rejoice! Fiction Kitchen is Raleigh’s premier 100% vegetarian restaurant. Vegetarians, vegans, and omnivores all agree that Fiction Kitchen is amazing, judging by the crowds of people waiting for a table. It’s definitely worth the wait though. Some of my favorite dishes include the Tinga Tacos and the Grilled Romaine Salad. This restaurant also serves brunch on Sundays from 11:30am-3pm.

Living Kitchen

Living Kitchen is another 100% vegetarian restaurant. The menu is almost exclusively raw as well. Living Kitchen also features a juice menu and several to-go items. Living Kitchen opened its Raleigh location in 2016 and now has locations in Chapel Hill and Charlotte.

Happy + Hale

If you are looking for a quick, healthy meal downtown, Happy + Hale is conveniently located in City Plaza and offers counter service all day. The menu consists of salads made with seasonal ingredients, smoothies, and cold-pressed juices.

Raleigh Raw

Raleigh Raw serves, you guessed it, raw food! They also offer cold-pressed juices and coffee beverages. For a filling, yet healthy, lunch, I recommend ordering one of the poke bowls. My favorite is the Faroe Monch with salmon! If you are in a hurry, it also has grab-and-go items available.

B. Good

If you want to eat healthy, but need something a little more hearty than salads, juices and smoothies, B. Good is an excellent option. The burgers and toppings are made with locally sourced meats. The menu also includes kale and grain bowls, salads, and smoothies if you are looking for something on the lighter side.

Other Downtown Raleigh restaurants that use locally-sourced ingredients and offer healthy options include Moonlight Pizza, The Daily Planet, and Irregardless Cafe. Irregardless frequently hosts musical acts as well so you can be entertained while eating a healthy meal! Want to cook a healthy meal at home? City Plaza hosts a Farmer’s Market on Wednesdays from 11 am – 2 pm during the spring, summer, and fall months.
