In just a couple of months, there will be two new locally owned businesses opening their doors in the charming downtown area of Wake Forest also known as the White Street historic business district. Unwined on White, a wine lounge + yoga studio & the Tonic bar + social club will be opening late Spring. Expect a lot of social activities/fun events, live music, good times and of course can’t forget the local beer, wine, etc. There is a lot of buzz and anticipation building surrounding these two newest additions to the downtown area. Most people are especially excited about the area’s first rooftop lounge that will overlook White Street.

The downtown Wake Forest area is already home to one of the best breweries in the entire state of North Carolina. White Street Brewing Co., founded in 2012 has won many prestigious awards and draws thousands of visitors to White Street. The well-established brewing company hosts many events throughout the year and is a favorite social hangout for local beer lovers as well as those just visiting for the day who are looking for an authentic local experience which the brewery delivers at its unique taproom.

For the past five-plus years, the brewery has been the go-to place for late-night fun & good times. It will be interesting to see how the downtown area of Wake Forest continues to evolve with the opening of two new spots catering to a similar crowd.

Unwined on White: Wine Lounge & Yoga Studio

Amy & Brian Burkhardt are excited to open their new business Unwined on White sometime in May. It will feature the only rooftop lounge in the area. The Unwined lounge will be open 7 days a week until 10 pm and as late as 12 am on Friday’s & Saturday’s. Unwined will be able to accommodate around 100 people total. They will have limited appetizers available on-site but will allow folks to bring in food from the food trucks that frequent White Street or other nearby restaurants.

” We will feature unique wines from small, family-owned and sustainably farmed vineyards by the glass or bottle along with an eclectic selection of craft beer. We will plan special wine dinners and tastings along with rooftop brunches and a variety of other special events along with live music on a regular basis.. On the fitness side, we have highly experienced instructors who will lead all levels and ages of clients in yoga, pilates, and barre classes six days a week. We will also host workshops and have special yoga events on the rooftop as well… – Amy & Brian Burkhardt, Owners

Amy tells us that they have been in the planning stages for a couple of years now and have owned the historic building for just over one year. There were quite a lot of approvals needed being they were completely re-doing a historic building, especially considering the structural soundness for the rooftop.

Brian’s background is in finance and procurement and Amy’s is law, however, they are excited to be working together on this new family-run local operation and can’t wait to be up and running. The couple has lived in Wake Forest for 6 years and fell in love with the downtown area immediately. Their oldest daughter teaches yoga and wine has always been a passion of Amy. Now, they are bringing them all together in one place to create a complete “Unwinding” experience for guests who enjoy wine and yoga in a unique setting.

Unwined on White will be located at 153 S White Street Wake Forest, NC 27587.

Tonic: Bar & Social Club

Tonic Owner Bill Opal tells us they plan to open their brand new establishment sometime in June if construction goes according to plan the next few months. The Tonic Bar & Social Club will provide a nice and unique atmosphere, with an emphasis on embracing the historic surroundings of the charming Wake Forest downtown area.

” We will be serving crafted cocktails, expertly selected wines and draft beers from regional brewery’s…  Food trucks out front and live music inside on the weekends  – Bill Opal, Owner

Tonic Bar & Social Club will be located at 158 S White St, Wake Forest, NC 27587. Tonic plans to be open til’ 10 pm during regular weekday hours and they will stay open late til’ 12 am on Friday’s & Saturday’s. Tonic will be located next door to the Wake Forest Coffee Company, a local coffee shop/cafe which is one of the downtown area’s staples for many years.
